EG-400™ Engine and Generator

Fire Detection System

We developed the EG-400™ to give reliable protection and peace of mind for the motorhome owner.  The EG-400 gives an early warning in case a fire occurs in the engine or generator compartments.

The EG-400 Fire Detection Monitor is designed to give the motorhome owner a reliable early warning of a probable fire in either the engine or generator compartment.  There are numerous statistics that suggest engine fires (and to a lesser degree generator fires) occur much more frequently than most motorhome owners would guess.  Those statistics are detailed in two articles posted on our website.

The monitor continuously measures the temperature of the engine and generator compartments.  The temperature of the selected compartment is displayed on the monitor.  The temperature display can be switched between the engine and generator compartments.  If an alarm level is exceeded, the display automatically switches to the affected compartment and an alarm is announced by both an LED light and an audio alarm.

The monitor incorporates several fail-safe features and the display assures the owner that the unit is functioning and ready to notify the owner of a problem.  It has two levels of alarms for each compartment.  The first level is an advisory alarm that the owner sets, based on historical temperatures of that compartment.  The second (or “high”) alarm level is set to a fixed temperature that indicates a very high probability of a fire.  If a high-level alarm is triggered, a dry-contact relay is activated.  This relay is used to trigger the RValve™ which is the heart of the fire suppression system.

The monitor is enclosed in an anodized aluminum enclosure which is designed to be flush mounted in the dash area, but it can also be easily mounted in other locations using an optional bracket.  The faceplate is 7.0 by 4.5 inches.

Optional installation parts include:

  • Bracket for mounting the EG-400

  • Cigar plug -- used for powering the EG-400 via the cigar lighter socket

  • 120V AC to 12V DC transformer for powering the EG-400 in the engine shut down mode but with the generator running (most installations will use a 12V source from the generator).

  • Wire for connecting monitor to transducers.  This is 22ga. twisted pair communication wire such as Carol C6348
